The Uniting Church in Australia has submitted comments to the Attorney General’s Department on the Exposure Draft of the proposed legislation to amend the Race Discrimination Act.
The Church strongly believes that the proposed Bill should be rejected in its entirety and the submission says the current legislation provides proper protection under law against racial discrimination and the case for change has not been made.
“We firmly reject the proposed amendments contained in the Bill as we believe they lessen the protections against racial vilification and have the potential to open the floodgates with regards to the production, dissemination and broadcast of materials that propagate racial hatred.”
