Members from Uniting Churches across Queensland gathered together in worship at Alexandra Park Conference Centre today to commence the Queensland Synod's 30th meeting.

"We are on holy ground as we gather for this 30th Synoda community in Christ," said Rev David MacGregor, minister at Oxley-Darra Uniting Church.

Synod members removed their shoes as they sang "This is holy ground" and the 30th Synod candle was lit.

They listened to a reading of Exodus 3:1-15, the story of Moses and the burning bush, and considered what it means to be called as "disciples on the way", the theme of the 30th Synod.

Former ABC broadcaster Mr David Busch gave a testimony dressed as a disciple on the way, in a traveller's cloak and carrying a walking pole.

He spoke about his journey as a disciple on the way and his decision to undertake a period of discernment, which drastically changes his career path.

"Discipleship is about seeking to honour the worth of other people's lives", said Mr Busch.

Synod members raised their hands singing, "Spirit, lead us, as we become the next chapter ourselves".

Rev Kaye Ronalds, Queensland Synod Moderator, closed worship saying, "I declare the adventure of the 30th Synod has begun."
