In celebration of World Environment Day on June 5, Blue Care launched its own Sustainability Principals, guiding how the organisation will operate to protect the environment and remain viable now and into the future.
Blue Care Director of Mission Colleen Geyer said the principles, Responsibility, Integration, Innovation and Collaboration, together with Blue Care’s organisational values, called on staff to act wisely as community and global citizens.
“Sustainability is about improving the quality of life for every one in a fair and equitable way, for present and future generations,” she said. “This means using resources responsibly and efficiently to minimise the demands placed on our planet.”
Ms Geyer said small changes could make a big difference with Blue Care already encouraging staff to reduce photocopying and electricity use, recycle scrap paper and milk bottles and rethink printing and the use of disposable cups.
“We’re keen to take responsibility for the environment and our resources while we provide quality services to the community,” she said.
“We want to integrate sustainability into our actions, values and culture and adapt to challenges by seeking innovative ways to preserve the environment and sustain our organisation.
“Together, we will work to influence change through education, research and commitment to sustainable practices.”
