God at work through ecumenism

Members of the Synod heard news of ecumenical endeavours on day one.

Members were told of the joint Uniting and Catholic church Unity College, inCaloundra, and UnitingWorld now have a partnership with the Church of North India. This has also provided a link between the schools in India with the Catholic Church which that have previously not had.

Angus McKay from Sandgate Uniting Church shared news of a Men’s Shed that was started by their local Anglican Church.

Mr McKay said the Sandgate Uniting Church Men’s Dinner group has been meeting for many years and now has the pleasure of welcoming men from other churches.

John Agnew spoke of his joy that last week Kairos Prison Ministry, an interdenominational Christian ministry, were able to begin work at Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre in Wacol.

Elaine Rae, Synod Schools Commission, spoke of other schools the Uniting Church is involved with, Emmaus College in Jimboomba and Jubilee Primary School on the Gold Coast.

“Those schools really wrestle with what it means to be ecumenical in their context,” she said.
