Blue Care Mareeba has unveiled a $10 million refurbishment bringing local services together on the one site at MacRae Street, Mareeba.

The project includes the refurbishment of the Blue Care Mareeba Garden Settlement Aged Care Facility and the opening of new offices for Blue Care Tablelands Community Care, Mareeba Day Therapy Centre and Mareeba Respite Care.

Blue Care Executive Director Robyn Batten said that Blue Care has been delivering community services in Mareeba since 1971.

“Mareeba residents who formerly had to travel to Atherton for respite care now have their own respite centre as well as access to many other Blue Care services conveniently co-located at the one site.”

Blue Care Garden Settlement Service Manager Lesley Magian said the refurbishment was a huge win for the people of Mareeba, with a $10 million investment in the local community to provide much needed aged care services.

The refurbishment includes a new 16-bed wing, complete with landscaped gardens for the specialised care of people with dementia.

New community and respite centres in Coomera, Gatton and Goondiwindi

Blue Care will develop three new community and respite care centres in Coomera, Gatton and Goondiwindi.

The new centres, expected to open next year, will provide services designed to promote independence and improve quality of life for people living in the community.

“For the first time, Blue Care will have its own premises in Coomera and Gatton, other than leased spaces, and the Goondiwindi development will replace an existing, older building,” Ms Batten said.

Ms Batten said the developments were made possible thanks to funding from bequests, local communities, the Queensland Department of Communities, and Blue Care.
