The authors are both lecturers in youth ministry at Fuller Theological College in the US, and experienced in practical youth ministry.

Deep Justice in a Broken World advances the view that most youth and church outreach work is superficial, making the worker feel righteous while further oppressing those on the receiving end.

The approach it advocates is to do the usual giving and sharing, but also to address the injustices leading to the need for the ministry.

There are many examples of unintended insensitivity that alert the reader to carefully examine what they are doing, for whom and why.

Each chapter has background information on the topic with discussion questions, directed activities and resource links.
