Ever read the book of Judges?

There’s not much call for it in our regular Sunday worship, largely because it is full of stories of murder, genocide, rape, deceit and even infanticide.

This little book, part of a new series DLT Books of the Bible, provides the complete book of Judges, with an original introduction by John Bell in which he outlines the main features of Judges and recounts some ways he’s used it both to engage people and invite them to reflect on whether certain actions are justified or not.

Presented as it is in a small, single volume JUDGES invites the reader to read the text as a complete narrative.

Its headings give a helpful guide to how we should the text, and point the reader to the essential features of the book.

John Bell’s introduction is very readable as he explains why Judges, while not offering us models to live by, is still an important book.
