The Grey (2012)

THE Grey is the new adventure film from Open Road Films, which stars Irish actor Liam Neeson.

The story begins with a plane crash in remote Alaska leaving John Ottway (Neeson) and a number of his burly co-workers stranded in the icy wilderness.

Whilst also battling a relentless blizzard the distraught group of men quickly discover that they are currently situated in wolf territory.

Ottway quickly takes charge of the group as he is the most knowledgeable when it comes to wolves.

The remaining survivors have to trek across the rough Alaskan terrain in search for help, whilst also trying to escape the hungry wolves who are fast on their trail.

While I am not a fan of the wolf storyline and I would have preferred a simple survival movie, I have to commend Neeson on his exceptional portrayal of a man’s personal struggle to survive.

I appreciated and enjoyed the emotional and philosophical undertone when Ottway would flashback to his childhood and the love of his wife.

I felt that these scenes contrasted nicely with the action aspect of the film.

However, I did feel the ending was a bit abrupt and unexplained.

Overall a good film, I would rate it a seven out of ten.
