The New Jerusalem Bible: A Bible for Everyone Reader’s Edition

Darton Longman and Todd, 1990
RRP $29.95

THIS BOOK contains the text of the Standard Edition (and thus includes the apocryopha) with a number of extras:

– a Glossary giving succinct notes on around 200 key words and concepts, each ending with several relevant biblical references;

– an index of persons with biblical references.

– a Chronological History placing biblical history against rulers and dynasties in the contemporary world.

– brief introductions to each section [e.g. prophets, wisdom, Paul] as well as each book including some historical background and an outline of the book, along with around 200 helpful footnotes on key words and concepts to assist with understanding.

The intention of the publisher is to produce a Bible in an easily accessible and manageable form, and that is achieved.

I see the Bible as useful for students at Catholic High Schools, fitting in school bags along with other textbooks.
