The Return of the Prodigal Son – Lent Course

(CD version)
RRP $31.95

This CD is based on the book of the same name, written after Henri Nouwen was deeply affected by Rembrandt’s painting, The Return of the Prodigal Son.
It is intended as a Lent course for groups but could be used at any time of the year by either groups or individuals.
The book led Mr Nouwen on a deep spiritual journey which significantly impacted his life; the CD helps the listeners to reflect on the meaning of the parable for their own lives.
Divided into five sessions, the listener is taken on a journey through the younger son receiving his inheritance and leaving home, the heartache of being away from home, the sombre return, the unexpected open arms of his father, and the encounter with the older son’s anger and jealousy.
MR Nouwen makes each facet of the story a personal meditation which, while showing his vulnerability and humanity, engages the listener in their own relationship with God and others.
If we have experienced resentment, envy, loneliness, rejection, or anger, we will find ourselves in this story and will respond to the possibilities of reconciliation, affirmation, compassion, and homecoming.
The Return of the Prodigal Son CD includes extracts about Mr Nouwen’s life and death, questions which cause deep reflection, and a booklet for group leaders.
The entire CD lasts 55 minutes but each session allows time for discussion.
The painting by Rembrandt is also thought-provoking and shown in full colour.
