Coastal Queen’s birthday honours

Two Queensland Uniting Church members were awarded Orders of Australia medals yesterday as part of the Queen’s Birthday celebrations.

Burleigh Waters resident Bettye Dare was awarded an Order of Australia medal for her service to the community as an organist with the Burleigh Heads Uniting Church.

Mr James Watt, also from the Sunshine Coast, was awarded an Order of Australia for service to the community, particularly through the 61st Battalion Queensland Cameron Highlanders Association.

Like Ms Dare, Mr Watt has also been heavily involved with the Burleigh Heads Uniting Church, and has helped round up goods like clothing and Bibles for schools and churches at Milne Bay – the very place the 61st Battalion fought so many years ago.

Many Uniting Church members were recognised nationally.
