First seniors leave Unity

College Board Member, Judy Morrison of Caloundra UCA and Principal Rudy Goosem outside the new assembly hall: finished with two days to spare before graduation!
THE UNITING Church’s unique school partnership with the Catholic church has taken a big step forward.

The first cohort of seniors’ graduation ceremony at Unity College, Caloundra, will mark the opening of a new assembly hall.

Funded through the federal government grants scheme, the multi purpose facility, with seating for 1000, was completed years ahead of the original master plan.

The Celtic Cross at the entrance symbolises the ecumenical nature of the P-12 college which has strong ties with the local Uniting Church and Romans Catholic parishes.

"We decided upon the Celtic cross as it is used by both the Uniting & Catholic Churches," said principal Rudy Goosem, who helped design the work with Rick Dalmau.

The Celtic Cross also embraces a coastal theme with Michelago’s famous sculpture of Pelican & Chicks on the stem of the cross. The iron sculpture was funded by a donation from Ray & Coral Trestrail of Kawana Uniting Church.
