Vale Margaret Frances Cayzer

Rev Margaret Frances Cayzer

14 July 1926 – 20 December 2006

Margaret was born in Brisbane and with her family traveled around Queensland with her Father’s Public Service work. While her family were part of the Presbyterian Church, through her host family in her college days (Teacher training at Kelvin Grove Teachers’ College) Margaret connected with her local Eagle Junction Congregational Church.

After various teaching posts Margaret study for the Licentiate in Theology as a prelude to life on the mission field, for which she applied to the London Missionary Society. Studies were under the control of the Congregational College and for academic work, all Congregational students joined with the Methodist students at the Old Kings College building at Kangaroo Point.

Margaret went on to serve her Lord and the people of India for 29 years through congregational and educational activities in many parts of the country. One of Margaret’s highlights was the establishment of a school for children with disabilities in Coimbatore Diocese.

In 1980 Margaret finished her ministry in India. God had prepared the way for a return to Australia with the opportunity to be ordained, 30 years after having completed the qualifications required, and to work as a Minister of the Uniting Church in Redcliffe.

Marriage to Arthur Cayzer – a long time friend came next, and then retirement on the grounds of age at the end of 1986.

The next twenty years saw Margaret continue to serve her Lord through some short term placements as well as a significant long-term (re-tyred) ministry within the community and church in Redcliffe. Margaret’s was a life lived to the glory of God – a witness to us all!
