Blue Care’s aged care centre serves great coffee

Blue Care is modernising residential aged care living by launching a new service that rivals franchises like Starbucks, the Coffee Club and Gloria Jeans.

Freshly brewed coffee, baked cakes and gourmet style sandwiches are just some of the menu items residents, their families, visitors and staff can enjoy at the new café at Pinewoods Aged Care Centre at Lawnton.

“You can hear laughter from all ages coming from the café as soon as you walk through the door,” Pinewoods Aged Care Centre Service Manager Lyn Bartolini said.

“The café gives residents and their families the chance to come together and interact in a social environment rather than just in their rooms,” she said.

“And at the same time it gives staff the opportunity to relax and wind down during their breaks or after their shifts.

“They can relax over a cup of coffee, have lunch, catch up on some reading or watch television.”

Ms Bartolini said many residents were unable to visit coffee shops on a regular basis and enjoyed having a café on-site.

“The café gives residents the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a coffee shop without having to leave the centre,” she said.

“Residents can purchase items such as ice-cream cones or cappuccinos – items many of them wouldn’t have dreamt of having again.

“We also hold a coffee club on Tuesday’s where residents can interact with each other over a cup of coffee or just take a break.”

Ms Bartolini said the café was designed to meet the needs of residents and staff.

“We wanted to create a relaxing and calming environment for anyone who visited the cafe,” she said.

“We also wanted to create an atmosphere of a small community where people can come together and mingle.
