Blue Care’s longest serving staff member rewarded

Blue Care’s Heather McKenzie received a ‘Blue Star’ badge for being Blue Care’s longest serving staff member
For the past 41 years, Heather McKenzie has dedicated herself to supporting the elderly, people with a disability and others in need in the community through various roles with Blue Care.

Ms McKenzie was recognised as Blue Care’s longest serving staff member at the recent staff awards night, which focussed on recognising staff who displayed great courage, sacrifice, commitment and loyalty to Blue Care.

The Blue Care Toowoomba administration officer was presented with a certificate of appreciation and a specially commissioned ‘Blue Star’ badge at the awards ceremony. The ‘Blue Star’ badge signifies the extraordinary commitment made by staff who have given 25 or more years of service to Blue Care.

“I have enjoyed the many challenges that I have faced over the past 41 years in my various administration roles with Blue Care,” Ms McKenzie said.

“The introduction of computers in 1989 was a particularly challenging period and I have seen Toowoomba Garden Settlement grow from two facilities to what it is today.”

Ms McKenzie said receiving a ‘Blue Star’ badge was an honour.

“It was a very humbling experience to be recognised by the organisation and my fellow workers,” she said.

“It’s a great achievement and I am very pleased to have been presented with this award.”

Blue Care started as the Blue Nursing Service in 1953 and has grown into one of Australia’s leading providers of community health and residential aged care.

As a not-for-profit organisation, Blue Care supports the elderly, people with a disability and others in need in the community to remain independent for as long as possible.
