Clayfield College appoints new Principal

Mr Brian Savins will be the new Principal of Clayfield College
The Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association (PMSA) has appointed Brian Savins as new Principal of Clayfield College.

The PMSA is a joint mission of the Presbyterian and Uniting Churches in Queensland and offers education of excellence in a Christian environment at Clayfield College, Somerville House, Brisbane Boys College and Sunshine Coast Grammar School.

Mr Savins will take up the appointment from 1 January 2007, as a result of the retirement later this year of Clayfield College’s incumbent Principal, Mrs Carolyn Hauff AM, who has served the independent girls school with distinction since 1991.

Announcing the appointment today, Clayfield College Council Chairman, Reverend John Gilmour, said Brian Savins was the outstanding first choice for the position following a comprehensive national search that attracted high-level applicants.

“Mr Savins was selected because of his extensive experience in both the independent and State sectors, his demonstrated capability in guiding an independent Christian school and his previous tenure at a leading Brisbane girls school,” Rev Gilmour said.

“The new Principal has also demonstrated a long-standing commitment to academic excellence, Christian leadership and pastoral care that aligns closely with Clayfield College’s mission.”

Rev Gilmour said Mr Savins brings the capacity to take the College, which celebrates its 75th Anniversary this year, into its fourth quarter-century with confidence.

“We are delighted to have been able to appoint an educator of such high calibre and demonstrated achievement to lead Clayfield College into the future,” he said.

Currently Principal of more than 1,000 students at Pedare College in Adelaide, Mr Savins has over 25 years experience as an educator in Australia and the United Kingdom.

He is well positioned to lead Clayfield College, having previously held senior administrative and teaching positions at leading independent schools in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.

His prior experience at boarding schools in Australia and the United Kingdom will also prove highly beneficial at Clayfield College, which currently has almost 100 boarding students.

Brian Savins holds a Master of Education, a Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Teaching and is a member of the Australian Heads of Independent Schools (AHISA).

Clayfield College was founded in 1931 and caters for girls from Prep to Year 12 and for boys from Prep to Year 5.
