Cool chaplain shaves for others on her 40th

Uniting Church Chaplain at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital Rev Iris Carden

Uniting Church Chaplain at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Rev Iris Carden will feel significantly cooler this winter.

On May 4, she will line up with hospital staff to have her head shaved to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

It is part of the "World’s Greatest Shave to Care and Cure".

The shave is happening on a significant day for Rev Cardin, as it will be her fortieth birthday.

"I’ve been thinking about joining in with this for some years, ever since I was Ward Chaplain in the oncology ward of the Royal Children’s Hospital," she said.

"And I’ve been trying to think of something really significant to do with my birthday this year. I’ve been telling friends for months to leave the weekend free.

"Then I received the information about joining the hospital team for the shave, and it was on my birthday, and it just clicked. This would be something really out of the ordinary. It would be a great tribute to a lot of the patients who’ve touched my heart, even broken my heart, in the past five years."

It is possible to sponsor Rev Carden on-line at www.worldsgreatestshave.com. She is shaver number 90838.
