Exposure is an opportunity to learn through travel

Experience life in the Philipines
In his The Re-Enchantment of Everyday Life, Thomas Moore said, "Travel gives rise to its own kind of spirituality; to a grand appreciation for community, to a passionate love for this earth, and to an urgent longing for transcendence."

Uniting International Mission is offering a short term exposure trip to the Philippines Easter 2006 (8-28th April).

This trip is part of the Uniting Church People in Mission program which offers opportunities to join in God’s work through Short Term Exposure trips through partner Churches overseas.

Tour coordinator Ms Jill Cooper from Melbourne believes that this trip is an excellent opportunity to experience life in the Philippines and discover more about God’s people in the Philippines.

Host for the visit will be The United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP), a partner church with the Uniting Church in Australia.

As mission congregations throughout the Philippines, the seeds of the church were planted primarily in rural areas, with fewer but larger churches in the urban centres.

This has led to a church with a great concern for rural and indigenous people, with programs to protect the welfare of people, the environment, and land rights of the people.

"A short term cross-cultural trip helps people recognise and begin to move beyond their own cultural boundaries," said Ms Cooper.

"It provides an opportunity to see God’s activity in another cultural context, and the way the partner church seeks to faithfully respond to God’s mission as they discern it within their own cultural context.

"It also provides an opportunity to give and to share, as well as to receive hospitality, welcome and friendship.

The cost for the trip will be $2,200, which covers flights ex Australia, travel within the Philippines, food, accommodation, contribution to partner church and/or projects, and travel insurance.
