A New Zealander with a decade of leadership experience in the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand has been called by the Assembly Standing Committee to the position of National Director of Uniting International Mission.
Rev. Dr Kerry Enright has spent the last decade as the equivalent to the General Secretary in the Uniting Church and will conclude his term in that position later this year.
As Executive Secretary, Dr Enright developed significant professional and personal relationships with the various ethnic groups represented within the Presbyterian Church and with representatives of the various partner Churches of the Presbyterian Church in the Pacific area.
Assembly General Secretary, Rev. Terence Corkin said Kerry will bring strong management skills along with significant theological capacity.
“He has presented to various national and international conferences and played a pivotal role in the preparation of the Presbyterian Church’s Directory of Worship, which was the focus of his doctorate.
“The Standing Committee felt Kerry’s relational ability and his strengths in team leadership would be invaluable within the UIM office and in his role in developing the potential of the UIM Reference Group,” Rev. Corkin said.
Dr Enright has a passion for mission and believes local and global mission are “two sides of the same coin” and core to the Church’s identity.
“Mission is glocal – a healthy congregation is likely to be both effective in local mission and have living links internationally. Loving one’s neighbour goes beyond borders and is most telling when those different from us help convert who we are and what we do, leading us further into the fullness of life God intends for us,” he said in his application.
The Assembly Standing Committee resolved to call Dr Enright to the position of National Director, UIM for a five year term to commence 1 February 2007.
