Prayers needed after the Samoan Tsunami

The Samoan islands and its nearby Pacific neighbours are currently dealing with the aftermath of a powerful 8.3-magnitude earthquake and consequent tsunami waves which hit the coast of Samoa this morning.

Reports of up to 40 people dead have been posted on various news sites. Kathy Pereira, Associate Director (Experience Programs) has been in contact with UnitingWorld volunteers in this region and has confirmed that all are safe. Please be in prayer for our Church Partners in Samoa and the Pacific as they seek to respond to the aftermath of these disasters.

UnitingWorld Pacific intern Ms Oiner Leutu Moa has this morning heard that her grandfather has died as a result of the Tsunami. Please be in prayer for Oiner and her family.

Bruce Mullan, Associate Director (Church Solidarity – Pacific) is in contact with the Methodist Church in Samoa and the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa and UnitingWorld will seek to offer support as the situation further unfolds.
