President remembers 30 years of the Uniting Church

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Uniting Church in Australia The President Rev Gregor Henderson has prepared a multimedia presentation in which he shares his observations about the Uniting Church including what he sees as its defining characteristics.

The Uniting Church was inaugurated on 22 June 1977 as a result of the coming together of the Congregational Union in Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia, and the Presbyterian Church of Australia.

There are around 2,500 Uniting Church congregations throughout the country with 243,000 members and adherents. A congregation may have hundreds of members or be a tiny community of a dozen people. They can be found deep in the heart of our cities, or in most isolated and outback towns.

It is also one of the largest non-government providers of community services in Australia and from small community organisations and congregation-based missions to large state-wide organisations, UnitingCare provides assistance to more than 1.8 million Australians in need each year.
