‘We’re working for God’s benefit’

ASSEMBLY NEWS

The Rev. Dr Dean Drayton opened his final business session as retiring President of the Uniting Church on July 5 with a call to delegates to “work hard in the Lord”.

He reminded all at the meeting that they were not going “under our own steam”, but working for God’s benefit. Their work and their lives were within the love of God.

This no doubt will be welcomed by new President the Rev. Gregor Henderson when he looks at the packed meeting schedule for the 11th Assembly.

The meeting voted to appoint Mr Henderson as President for the next triennium. The decision was met with enthusiasm, and the new President, who had absented himself for the vote, came back in to a standing ovation.
