The 31st Synod in Session closed five days of work and fellowship on 15 October with a worship service reminding members to “keep the charge”.
Moderator David Baker reflected on the church as a flotilla; a group of ships traveling together, supporting each other. He reflected on past moderator, Kaye Ronalds’ question: “Are we there yet?”
“I hope you have been refuelled. I hope you’ve checked the map. We’re not there yet but we are on the way,” said David.
“The paschal mystery is not simply an article of our faith; it’s an article of our life.
“Living and dying, dying and rising is part of our faith and life.”
Reflecting on the reading by Rev Jenny Tymms from 2 Corinthians 4, David said, “We are human but the vision of glory in this passage causes us to get up and go forward again.
“Go, have fun, enjoy, fail, pick yourself up again and know that faith runs through Jesus.”
Members of the 31st Synod stood and shared the affirmation of faith. From UiW 2 adapted from the BoU then shared communion by serving each other around a colourful table holding a cross painted by Aboriginal artist Safina Stewart from Mabuiag Island and commissioned by the Moreton Rivers Presbytery.
“As we are called let us commit to walking this way: Uniting in Christ, acting with love, living in hope, witnessing in faith and working for justice,” said David.
Calvary Presbytery minister Rev Dennis Corowa sent the people out telling them to, “Go into this moment in faith; keep the charge”.
