Letters to the Editor – Spring 2018

Feedback on the Winter edition I am writing to offer my encouragement and appreciation. I am sorry to say in past years I have “passed up” Journey when it arrived in our foyer and Samford Community Church. Not sure why—maybe a cursory look once, determined it didn’t appeal? Well I am now a convert. My business is about listening to ...

Letters to the Editor – Autumn 2018

Does the Old Testament still apply today? I appreciated Dr Paul Jones’ article in November’s Journey and would like to add my bit. The Old Testament is needed today more than ever. The redemptive types and shadows which God gave Israel are the map or pattern which spells out the journey of the church as the cloud of the spirit ...

Letters to the editor December 2017

Remembering the Reformation I wholeheartedly agree with the letters to the editor in November’s Journey. I found it disappointing—and also the whole issue of Journey—in commemorating one of the most significant events in the history of the Christian church, a fundamental question was ignored: what would Martin Luther say about the church, and in particular the Uniting Church today? Would ...

Too theological? I refer to the article in October’s issue of Journey, “Reformation and the Uniting Church”. It appeared to me that this article was written for trained theologians. I found it difficult to understand. I had never met the word “apophatic” before. Journey’s aim surely is communication with the person in the pew. I believe this article failed that ...

Letters August 2016

Looking at the recent Journey (July 2016 edition) I am concerned at the apparent level of support for ‘feminist’ agendas. I have no problem with women seeking jobs but I wonder whether the headline should have read “Smashing the glass floor”. I feel there is such a pandering to status-seeking in feminist ‘conversation’ which does a disservice to the faith. ...

August 2016 Journey now available

August 2016 Journey masthead.

This edition brings profiles of two Christian Queenslanders who offer radically different perspectives on faith: Ken Ham (page 6) and Val Webb (page 10). While Val emphasises the importance of questioning in faith and brings an unmistakable progressivism to Christianity, Ken has an intense certainty in the Old Testament as literal history and is getting people around the world talking, ...

Letters June 2016

Disappointing that your excellent article on Julie McCrossin (June 2016 edition) brought in the denominational issue. Sydney Anglicans’ ideas are represented in one wing of our Uniting Church, while Rev Dorothy McRae-McMahon is represented on another. Those of us somewhere in the centre thank God for our Christian fellowship with both wings. I don’t have any worry about your excellent ...

Gratitude to Francis Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si is not expensive in book form. I have read it carefully. The pope is in a unique position to address people worldwide on the challenges facing the human family and our “common home”. As he says, it concerns us all. Each of us can do something; together we can do more. Leaders ...

Women and men should be in equal partnership I read in the July Journey about the proposal for the Uniting Church Adult Fellowship to encourage “participation from all cultural groups in women’s fellowships” (“Multicultural women’s fellowships proposed”, page 19). I certainly agree that as a church we should be actively encouraging the involvement of all cultural groups in our churches ...

Letters June 2015

Why change? I agree with all the letters in the May issue of Journey. There is nothing to talk about, God’s word is clear. He made Eve. No I am not narrow-minded, these gay people have been around since the year dot but it was always kept quiet. Why should we change ways for them? All the publicity they get ...
